The Modern Monuments Man

Dr. Hayden Bassett, @ the VMNH

If you haven't checked out the modern "Monument Men", you should. Dr. Hayden Bassett is a descendant of C. C. Bassett, one of the founders of Bassett Furniture.
Dr. Bassett works at the Virginia Museum of Natural History in Martinsville, and was recently commissioned as a Captain in the Army reserve unit that works on these cases.
I have compiled several really good articles about the work that his team is doing, with its immediate focus being on the destruction going on in Ukraine.

"Bassett, who majored in archaeology and minored in architectural history at UVA, earned a Ph.D. from the College of William & Mary, and currently is assistant curator of archaeology at the Virginia Museum of Natural History, as well as director of the museum’s Cultural Heritage Monitoring Lab. There, he works on monitoring threatened cultural heritage sites in Ukraine and was featured in a recent New York Times article and on BBC Radio."
