Nathan's Department Store
In 1982, Nathan's Department Store in Bassett closed for good. In operation since 1928, it was part of the Heiner's group of stores, until Nathan Weinstein, an employee of Heiner's purchased it. In fact, Sam Heiner had so much faith in Weinstein, that he specified in his Last Will and Testament that he wished for Nathan to purchase the store at his death. Nathan was an immigrant from Russia and couldn't even speak English when he arrived. Phil Rizzuto was a regular customer here.
